Why you should invest in Kenya

Image
Most people today are relentlessly in search of investment destinations, this is a good thing because each firm should seek to widen it's target markets. Most countries have taken the initiative of wooing investors because at the end of the day no one will do that for them. Africa has not been left behind, this is because of it's great potential. Africa has some of the fastest emerging markets which include Nigeria, Ghana, Angola and Kenya among others, however the differences between these states with the others are quite subtle for people who has never been to the continent before. Although Africa has got it's share of misfortunes it still has a very promising future as far as economic and physical prosperity is concerned. We are witnessing the current ebola  menace which has proved a hard nut to crack for Africa, probably because the affected states lack proper framework to counter the problem. Next is terrorism which is actually a global problem, but we have seen such a

Big Brother Africa not for Kenya

Image
After so much anticipation for Africa's most hyped reality show, I can only switch to other channels and avoid it to the best of my ability, i'm so enraged after spending so much time and money voting. One might think i'm being overly irrational because it's just a contest but i advice such to take a more meticulous approach towards whatever am fussing about. How do you sit down and watch this show when all your countrymen have been kicked out of the house. Sabina was indeed a strong contender and that was so evident right from the day she made her official appearance. She captured the heart of Africa and that was manifested from the short period of time She spent in the house. I highly doubt that people out there failed to save her from the chopping board. Something aint adding up in Biggies's house and it's really only a matter of time before we peel off the mask. Esther from Uganda was also evicted on the second week and that also raised eyebrows. Next was Al

Top songs 2014

Music and humanity revolves around each other for as long as i can remember. Everybody has a craving for music albeit the type of music may vary from one individual to the other, it will serve the same purpose. Take for instance hip hop junkies or metal addicts, they all derive some ecstasy from listening to their type of music. Having not dedicated myself to any one particular genre of music i realize am a very versatile listerner in the context of music. Anything that sounds good to my ears becomes my cup of tea. This year has seen some of the best hits I've ever heard of, my list of all time favourites has expanded significantly.I think many will concur with my list once i'm through composing it because it appears most of my songs make it to the top charts worldwide. That makes me believe that there are indeed lots of peeps out there who have got my taste. Kenya premier league review

Image
The Kenya premier league is down to the wire, and now it's really just a matter of three games to go before the winners and the losers are unveiled. It's been a long and a tedious journey but finally someone has to bag the prize. As the league nears homestretch three sides have emerged as favourites to clinch the much coveted trophy. Leading the pack are the defending champs Gor Mahia sitting pretty at the top after amassing 54 points, Sofapaka fc in hot pursuit with 50 points then finally Tusker Fc who have garnered just about 48 points, though that would change depending on the ruling that will be made by the relevant authorities, after it emerged that they had fielded twelve players in a recent match which is a breach of soccer rules. If these allegations are indeed found to be substantial enough then it would be a massive blow for the brewer's title ambitions. But it's too early to make judgements because soccer is a game of twist and turns and things might take an

Prinsloo, christie and safaricom sevens

Image
What a nice time it has been, a month of fun and rugby action. Let's just say i can finally get to rest and start meditating on the fifteens season just around the corner. Immediately after closing for holidays, prinsloo sevens came swiftly in nakuru popularly called nax vegas and there was no way i was going to miss out. It was a great weekend chilling out with friends and socializing with new people. Nakuru is known for its bustling nightlife, nice hotels and of course beautiful girls. I love the passion the people have for rugby, the wanyore being the nickname of Nakuru rfc receive massive loyal support from the people. I only wish the tournament could'nt have ended, it was pure bliss. I got back home but again prepared for the christie sevens which was to commence the following weekend. The weather almost ruined it on saturday. We woke up to a chilly weather with very soggy grounds. It's not the best of things  playing on a water ladden pitch with all the mud but rugby

Never regret, keep moving

How do you pick up the threads of a turbulent past? How do you carry on when instinctively you begin to understand there's no reversing back? You've probably had some heavy meal for lunch and it's slowly taking it's toll on you. Your stomach rumbles, your eye lids begin to close and you soon begin to resemble nothing but a grown lazy pig in a puddle of water. The boss is out of the building and so you resort to spend the whole afternoon doing much of nothing. But just before siesta can get the best of you, a text comes in, and the phone remains in your hands. One thing leads to the next and now it's evident all your attention is bent on the gadget. You qiuickly click on the blue icon with the letter 'f' engraved on it. Well you are now on facebook. And you realize you hav'nt been online for the past two weeks or so and theres alot you have missed on the cyber space. You scroll down gently and boom!! there goes Sharon's photo seated next to a gentlema

Show respect to all

Image
It's indeed amazing how we often treat people we dim lesser than ourselves with contempt, but find the reverse completely unpalatable. Nobody deserves to be looked down upon no matter how desperate they would appear to be and infact looks can be deceiving at times. So today I was at a local store in town just buying a few items. All seemed calm and at peace, with everyone doing just what had brought them in there. The traffic was bigger than usual and that's something to worry about if you are time conscious. The lines at the till were miserably long and this is where things would take a dramatic twist and I was lucky enough to have grabbed a front row seat. I held back my horses and became a bit more patient than usual but it appears some other clients had far more sinister agendas. Now a middle aged lad dared to overlap and get to the counter before everyone else. Little did he know that there was a guy who had a similar problem like his, but had apparently sacrificed to line

Let the holidays begin

Image
The clock ticks, and I can't wait to get back home and just relax and count myself lucky for having completed this semester. I'm so impatient, but I'll have to wait since the exams will mark the ultimate homestretch. Now this has been a long expedition dating back to september last year. It has been a marvelous time at school, both with friends and foes. This academic year was decorated with so much activity. It started on a high note with eight units to cover and honestly it's been the busiest period i've ever witnessed since I joined campus. Lots of assignments and those random quizes, for those who know what i'm talking about. I also can't forget to mention the elevated complexity of courses taken this time round. New tuitors on the block too, now it really takes time to adjust to their tact and get in their good books. Its been long and tedious having to put up with classes nearly each day of the week, starting as early as 7AM or 8AM. We literally had tw

Dala sevens weekend

Image
Lets just say it's terribly hard not to talk about certain things. The weekend is meant for relaxation and  merriment, as we take a brief break from the daily routine of waking up and getting busy all day at work. Now my weekends are often pre occupied with lots of activities, but it's almost inevitable for me to miss out on a rugby gig especially when it's within the vicinity. It's indeed amazing how rugby has gained immense popularity, almost dwarfing football which is traditionally considered the people's game here in kenya. This years dala  sevens was not as impressive at least according to what I had personally expected. It was just but a miserable letdown, I've been lucky enough to attend the past editions but I must admit that this particular event did not live up to my expectations. I just don't seem to understand why the tournament had to be hosted at Kisumu showground in the first place. The venue is a bit far from the CBD and you'll have to co

Celebrating a hero

Image
It's always hard to say goodbye especially to persons you have become so fond of. At first i could'nt stomach the thought of this beautiful story coming to an end but i've learnt to embrace the fact that everything happens precisely for a reason. When people come into your lives, theres no doubt they'll impact you in a way, either way the expiriences will live on through time . Well, some do so much more than we could possibly imagine and change our lives for eternity. Though sometimes things get hard when together, it's always wise to dwell more on the good side of life and remain hopeful in all circumstances. When Mr Joe Peterson came to Kenya  sometime back in 2003 from the United States, theres was an instant urge to serve and step in the gap. Kenya indeed has alot of problems which did'nt take him a minute to identify, poverty, AIDS pandemic and lack of the gospel being some of the core issues particularly in the lake region. I first saw Joe when a group of

Burden of being a luo

Image
Theres nothing as good as a country with diverse ethnicity, whereby varied tribes live together. Kenya is sure lucky to have fourty two tribes at her disposal, something totally unheard of in some states. Stereotyping is inevitable because each tribe exhibit unique traits largely influenced by their respective cultures. If you have been around for quite some time then you've probably heard of the kikuyu and their prowess in business or maybe the Kalenjins and their expertise in long distance races. Kenya is sure an interesting place to be but without the jaluos it would be a little devoid of the ever unfolding drama and the amusement that go with it. This is so because of obvious reasons, the luo people have become so attached to this country through time and are firmly part of her history. Neither once nor twice has being a luo been termed as a burden, it's so normal to hear that. And infact the slogan has been given a facelift by some fellows as "being a luo is a lifest

World cup lessons

Image
The world cup is finally over, the biggest global sporting event and most viewed word wide. It has been a month of epic soccer showdown, punctuated with the biggest upsets ever witnessed as far as soccer is concerned. I have to admit though that this was the only world cup I covered fully even though I missed a couple matches once in a while. I for some reason feel this event came to and end too soon, well lets just say time waits for no man. World cup in brazil lived up to the expectations of millions.  It was anticipated to be the best ever with all the matches being top of the bill. It sure did attract large droves of people from all walks of life. Anybody who got to watch the world cup had something to learn. Well, that may vary depending on individuals but I personally learnt alot from this beautiful game of soccer. Things get very interesting when you begin to relate sports with real life, and thats exactly what sports are meant for though very few people view things from that an

Ingoo sevens frenzy

Image
A typical kenyan gig to precise, not any different from  the safaricom sevens series which run across the country. There was indeed great anticipation that this event would be a big breakthrough as this was the first ever. Kakamega is so very much endowed with rugby talent, you all have heard of kakamega high School, western bulls and elite players like Humphrey Khayange, Collins Injera and of course the ever jim-dandy Davis Chenge. Kakamega county has a number of stadia that can comfortably host local rugby tournaments and a huge rugby fanbase, but its not clear why safaricom has never paid any keen interest in incoporating the region in the sevens series. Kakamega showground is slowly becoming the home of rugby in this county. Late last year there was Kabras 10s at the same venue, and suprisingly Nakuru rfc, Kisumu rfc and Kericho graced the tournament though the attendance was disappointing given the free entry. This particular tournament did well than critics had projected and i thi

Rusinga Lodge

Image
Yet again another exhiliarating Kenyan expirience, and this time it's Rusinga Island Lodge. Not very well known by many, could be because of its remote location. Well, Rusinga Island itself is well famed for the hominid remains discovered there by Richard Leakey, is remains a place of interest in terms of history and scientific research and of course tourism. It is also very key in Kenyan history as the late trade unionist Tom Mboya hailed fom there. There are three possible means by which you can get there. Rusinga is approximately 500 kilometres to the west of Nairobi. And so theres a full safari expirience via road. Then theres a small airstrip at Kaksingri which can handle light aircraft, so you can opt to fly as that would be of great convenience and ensure you waste no time. You can as well travel to Luanda Kotieno via Kisumu then board a ferry which is even more fascinating, worry not about the car as  it accomadates vehicles as well. The cruise lasts about fourty five minut

Kisumu city next big thing.

Image
If the projections made by the UN and World bank were anything to go by, then more than 65% of the Kenyan population will be residing in cities. This begs the question, are the towns expanding towards this course? Kenya is by far one of the most developed states in the sub saharan Africa, this is evidently seen in the infrastructure that has been put in place and those currently underway. Many factors come into play in order to woo foreign investors and it all boils down to the amenities our cities offer such as good health, good IT systems etc. Its quite commendable that our economy has improved since independence and still theres so much in the offing. I took a brief walk in my city Kisumu, one of the Kenyan three major cities and the progress being made is overwhelming. I think the county govt is in the right track towards achieving vision 2030. I've been to several other major towns and the same prospects are reflected. For instance Eldoret is fast growing and you would be surp

Rondo Retreat memoirs

You don't realize what you have until you clean your room, somewhat funny but i found myself in this situation little more  than a month ago.  I always give credit where it's due and did'nt mind putting in black and white my escapades in the vast amazing forest.  Hiking is often not my cup of tea but this expirience changed things forever. I know beyond any doubts that most people opt to visit the coast, Mara or Naivasha but I'm talking about the great kakamega forest. I've lived in this part of Kenya for a while now but oblivious to thrill the forest has to offer. If you were to travel by road from Nairobi , the town is about 400 km to the north west but you can opt to fly to Kisumu International airport then its just about an hours drive. Kakamega is a small vibrant town full of life and energy in equal measure. The native Luhyia community has been considered one of the most friendly people in Kenya. Once you are in town theres alot to see and an array of activiti
