Kenya premier league review

The Kenya premier league is down to the wire, and now it's really just a matter of three games to go before the winners and the losers are unveiled. It's been a long and a tedious journey but finally someone has to bag the prize. As the league nears homestretch three sides have emerged as favourites to clinch the much coveted trophy. Leading the pack are the defending champs Gor Mahia sitting pretty at the top after amassing 54 points, Sofapaka fc in hot pursuit with 50 points then finally Tusker Fc who have garnered just about 48 points, though that would change depending on the ruling that will be made by the relevant authorities, after it emerged that they had fielded twelve players in a recent match which is a breach of soccer rules. If these allegations are indeed found to be substantial enough then it would be a massive blow for the brewer's title ambitions. But it's too early to make judgements because soccer is a game of twist and turns and things might take an unexpected trajectory. Well, Kogallo has been stunning this season, doing exactly what they did last season. Having lost just three matches it's with no doubt they are leading the way. It would be hard to imagine how they achieved that, because they have been participating in other continental competitions and as if that's not enough they had to go without the services of their tactician Bobby Williamson who was summoned to coach the national team.
The impromptu loss of Edwin Lavatsa and Rama Salim some of it's key players would easily dent
Kogalo's title chase but thanks to their resilience as it has paid off in the long run. They have defied all odds to remain on top something that would have been a tall order for several sides in the league. Should Gor beat Sofapaka next weekend then they'll be leading by some unassailable 57 points, winning the league with two games to spare. The ugandan trio of Baba Kizito, Walusimbi and maestro Danny Sserunkuma have been quite instrumental in this campaign. Sserunkuma has had an impressive season scoring in most if not all matches and is going to win the golden boots unchallenged. To be candid I think Ugandan players are way ahead of our players, I for some reason like the way they do their thing. It's certain that you'll see them playing with so much passion and zeal. I think Gor Mahia will still dominate Kenyan football for a considerable time frame but with some serious opposition from Ulinzi and perrenial rivals Tusker. Sofapaka are favourites too but their prospects of winning the league look bleak given that they hav'nt played against two of the top three sides, that is Gor mahia and tusker respectively.
They still hav'nt played afc leopards yet, who are out to slow them down after losing to them on the gotv shield semis, they say revenge is a dish best served cold. AFC is fighting to book a top eight spot and wont go down without some serious brawl and the leopards can get pretty much nasty when need be. Tusker on the other end are potential winners too but could be looking to settle for the second spot in the worst case scenario, so it's pretty obvious they'll give sofapaka a run for their money. Gor mahia wont settle for nothing other than the cup and would opt for a draw with sofapaka on a worst case scenario. So that leaves sofapaka with a very limited chance of success. It appears as though they can garner a maximum of not more than five points from these fixtures. Tusker are potential winners too but pundits argue that the best Tusker can achieve is the runners up slot which appears to be true to some extent because Ulinzi cannot be written off whatsoever.
This season no star will remain twinkling in the
Kenyan premier league skies, from what we see looking at the bottom of the table.
It apppears as though City stars and Nakuru all stars are caught up in the relegation quicksand. It's not possible that these two sides are going to survive if calculations were anything to go by. City stars has survived the relegation battle before but this time luck is clearly not on their side. They've had a devastating season and a big surge in terms of perfomance, the Nigerian tactician has done little to redeem the stars. Nakuru All stars has followed in the footsteps of Kakamega homeboyz and will slowly be relegated to the second tier division to lick their wounds. I bet they've acquired some much valuable skills to assist them in their quest to return to the Kenyan Premier League. Several teams like Muhoroni sugar, Western Stima, Chemelil sugar have showcased stellar perfomances to earn them decent positions in the standings infact far away from the tentacles of relegation, but perhaps the most commendable improvement witnessed should be that of Ulinzi. They've risen from the ashes like the phoenix all the way to the fourth place. Matano is by far one of the best Kenyan tacticians and this has been tested, proven and verified from his past endevours with Tusker. He is an embodiement of success and that cannot be disputed any time any day. On the other hand Afc leopards have had a miserable season albeit they reached the Nile Cup finals. The loss of their stars Allan Wanga and Steve Were has been a challenge and finding the right people to fit in their shoes is becoming increasingly difficult. There is immense pressure on the coach to seal a top 8 slot which might not be as easy as it looks given the unpredictability of ingwe's game. Afc might just walk out empty handed this season much to the delight of their arch rivals Kogallo who will be the all time title winners. As the league ends lets focus on fortifying the national team by recruiting young talent and intergrating expirienced players as well. We will only succeed in ruining our football if unecessary politics and endless bickering dont come to an end. Bobby Williamson has got all the credentials, and will help stars soar to greater heights having polished and refurbished Ugandan football. All the best harrambee stars.
