Theres nothing as good as a country with diverse ethnicity, whereby varied tribes live together. Kenya is sure lucky to have fourty two tribes at her disposal, something totally unheard of in some states. Stereotyping is inevitable because each tribe exhibit unique traits largely influenced by their respective cultures. If you have been around for quite some time then you've probably heard of the kikuyu and their prowess in business or maybe the Kalenjins and their expertise in long distance races. Kenya is sure an interesting place to be but without the jaluos it would be a little devoid of the ever unfolding drama and the amusement that go with it. This is so because of obvious reasons, the luo people have become so attached to this country through time and are firmly part of her history. Neither once nor twice has being a luo been termed as a burden, it's so normal to hear that. And infact the slogan has been given a facelift by some fellows as "being a luo is a lifest...

The world cup is finally over, the biggest global sporting event and most viewed word wide. It has been a month of epic soccer showdown, punctuated with the biggest upsets ever witnessed as far as soccer is concerned. I have to admit though that this was the only world cup I covered fully even though I missed a couple matches once in a while. I for some reason feel this event came to and end too soon, well lets just say time waits for no man. World cup in brazil lived up to the expectations of millions.  It was anticipated to be the best ever with all the matches being top of the bill. It sure did attract large droves of people from all walks of life. Anybody who got to watch the world cup had something to learn. A typical kenyan gig to precise, not any different from  the safaricom sevens series which run across the country. There was indeed great anticipation that this event would be a big breakthrough as this was the first ever. Kakamega is so very much endowed with rugby talent, you all have heard of kakamega high School, western bulls and elite players like Humphrey Khayange, Collins Injera and of course the ever jim-dandy Davis Chenge. Kakamega county has a number of stadia that can comfortably host local rugby tournaments and a huge rugby fanbase, but its not clear why safaricom has never paid any keen interest in incoporating the region in the sevens series. Kakamega showground is slowly becoming the home of rugby in this county. Yet again another exhiliarating Kenyan expirience, and this time it's Rusinga Island Lodge. Not very well known by many, could be because of its remote location. Well, Rusinga Island itself is well famed for the hominid remains discovered there by Richard Leakey, is remains a place of interest in terms of history and scientific research and of course tourism. It is also very key in Kenyan history as the late trade unionist Tom Mboya hailed fom there. There are three possible means by which you can get there. Rusinga is approximately 500 kilometres to the west of Nairobi. And so theres a full safari expirience via road. Then theres a small airstrip at Kaksingri which can handle light aircraft, so you can opt to fly as that would be of great convenience and ensure you waste no time. You can as well travel to Luanda Kotieno via Kisumu then board a ferry which is even more fascinating, worry not about the car as  it accomadates vehicles as well. If the projections made by the UN and World bank were anything to go by, then more than 65% of the Kenyan population will be residing in cities. This begs the question, are the towns expanding towards this course? Kenya is by far one of the most developed states in the sub saharan Africa, this is evidently seen in the infrastructure that has been put in place and those currently underway. Many factors come into play in order to woo foreign investors and it all boils down to the amenities our cities offer such as good health, good IT systems etc. Its quite commendable that our economy has improved since independence and still theres so much in the offing. I took a brief walk in my city Kisumu, one of the Kenyan three major cities and the progress being made is overwhelming. I think the county govt is in the right track towards achieving vision 2030. You don't realize what you have until you clean your room, somewhat funny but i found myself in this situation little more  than a month ago.  I always give credit where it's due and did'nt mind putting in black and white my escapades in the vast amazing forest.  Hiking is often not my cup of tea but this expirience changed things forever. I know beyond any doubts that most people opt to visit the coast, Mara or Naivasha but I'm talking about the great kakamega forest. I've lived in this part of Kenya for a while now but oblivious to thrill the forest has to offer. If you were to travel by road from Nairobi , the town is about 400 km to the north west but you can opt to fly to Kisumu International airport then its just about an hours drive. Kakamega is a small vibrant town full of life and energy in equal measure. The native Luhyia community has been considered one of the most friendly people in Kenya.
