We Could do better
A land of unmistakable beauty, and hardworking folks, a gem in the African continent. Kenya is divine, her picturesque landscapes is diverse from the long coastline teeming with some of the best hotels on the continent to the collosal Rift Valley rich in volcanic activity and finally to the zenith of the great Mount Kenya, the second highest peak in Africa. There's alot to marvel at in this part of the world and that's why She has constantly been voted as one of the best safari destination on the globe. The Maasai mara, Samburu, Tsavo and several other national parks dot the country, the unending plains in the southern part of the country leaves alot to be desired in the context of adventure. Lake Victoria the Largest lake in the continent by surface area occupies the south western part of the country adjacent to Mount Elgon estimated to be the oldest Mountain in the region. The lush green forests of Abrdares, Kakamega, Mau forests and whatnot clad the landscapes in green. Away from that, the country boasts great diversity in her people, fourty two tribes inhabiting this great paradise, a very conspicous state indeed, in this part of the world. Bantus are predominant, but closely followed by Nilotes and finally Cushitic tribes wrap up the cocktail although a significant population of foreigners have since gained Kenyan citizenship in the form of Indians, Europeans, Arabs etc. Kenya has been the home of iconic figures in the world we know, great men and women have called her home, it's no surprise that reknowned neurosurgeon Ben Carson hinted the same. Lupita Nyongo scooping the prestigious Oscar award which has evaded several seasoned actors for years was truly unbelievable. But perhaps the most beautiful story belongs to President Barrack Obama, which to this very day remains enigmatic. He is the epitome of what Kenyans can be and what they are made of. His homecoming was of great importance, and the whole country was caught up in a frenzy, this was the very first time a sitting U.S president was going to set foot in Kenya. It attracted criticism in equal measure with CNN terming Kenya as a hotbed of terror which sparked a fierce twitter battle in the cyberspace. Well in my opinion Obamas visit was a little more hyped than it should have been. The whole state was at a standstill as the media shifted full attention to this single story, painting headlines with pictures of Potus. The Nairobi beautification project which had kicked off earlier cost the tax payers nothing less than 40 million Kenyan shillings. Things got so bad, Obamas security detail commanded Nairobi like we've got no cops or security personnel of our own this to some analysts is a demeaning gesture which should not be tolerated. At the airport his security agents took siege of the control towers something hardly ever witnessed in other countries. It is understood that he hails from this part of the globe but Kenyans made such a big deal out of it, and the whole world watched in in awe and great amazement. I doubted the ability of Kenya to uphold her sovereignty this was truly uncalled for but nonetheless his visit meant much more to the Kenyan people. Being under the spotlight means Kenya will have the ability to attract more direct foreign investments because of the wide range of startups and young upcoming entrepreneurs. His visit also signified a close partnership of the two countries which was believed to be deteriorating probably because of ICC charges against Uhuru and his deputy and the country's inclination towards the east. The United States will therefore fund Kenya in various departments which means that the country will benefit from 1 trillion Kenya shillings for various projects particularly the lamu port project and several others which will steer the country towards vision 2030. More Kenyans will now have the opportunity to fly abroad as the U.S government will slacken visa restrictions on Kenyans who intend to fly into the States and become potential citizens as well. Some Chinese official once said Kenyans were full of primitive energy upon his visit but later wished he could swallow back his words because the backlash on twitter was overwhelming. Well, he might have seen a great deal of untapped potential in Kenyan people and her vast resources but was probably misquoted but today i'm still left with more questions than answers after witnessing the recent unnecessary fray we were caught up in prior to Obama's visit.
